Gene and Dr. Doyle Wilson were honored with the BIF Pioneer Award at the 2021 Beef Improvement Federation Research Symposium & Convention in Des Moines, in recognition of their work in developing the use of ultrasound to measure carcass composition in live animals, The award was presented by Gene’s friend and former student Dr. Scott Greiner. Gene was honored to receive the 2019 Red Angus Advocate of the Year Award at the 2019 Red Angus National Convention in Dubuque. The award was presented by Gene’s friend and former student at Iowa State Kyle Gilchrist.
